Trees for the Future

Faced with the situation of poverty of farmers in countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Tanzania or Senegal, the NGO Trees For Future (TFF) has implemented a model of agricultural and environmental development. TFF is subsidized by donations from public and private entities, in the poorest rural areas in Africa.

According to data from TFF, the profit figures of the farms, both commercial and direct food for this population, are alarming and insufficient to feed themselves throughout the year. The solution is simple: To end hunger and poverty, the TFF program helps farmers grow more commercial and food farms by planting small food forests.

From Pia Barcelona, we have been collaborating for 6 years with TFF to support their development and tree planting projects. In 2015, our contribution has led to almost 20,000 new trees and an improvement in the quality of life of these farming families in Africa.

In 2016 TFF has launched a new project to help communities around Singida, Tanzania, to improve their situation by planting millions of trees in these garden-forests. The project will start with 300 families living 150 miles northeast of the capital of Dodoma and whose impact will benefit thousands of people. Singida is an area inhabited by rural communities of farmers who are trying to make ends meet, developing their activity in a highly degraded commercial hub.

The families that will enter the program are struggling to grow enough millet and maize to feed themselves, and to earn the money to buy clothes or send their children to school. The area is poor and dry, and therefore the intervention and realization of the Forest Garden project is very urgent.
